    • Thanks for your kind response Geoffrey. But I have another question. How long will it take for me to learn both of them so that I can get more jobs with the skills? So that if I don’t get a PHP job I get a JavaScript job…

      • You can learn both of them in 24 hours. But to master a programming language to the extent that you can build something useful in it and somebody is willing to pay you to do it – this will take a lot of time.

So my suggestion is to start with one language, say PHP and do it thoroughly for one entire year. Learn it inside out. Then the next year jump onto the JavaScript(Nodejs) bandwagon and have fun…

  1. Having taken a lot of Udemy courses, I agree with the quote you mentioned above by Christopher Pappas. Otherwise this is a great list for learning web design & development.

  2. Hey Geoffrey,

I think the the complete course by Rob is better for me to take than the web bootcamp by Colt Steele because colt steele only teaches JavaScript while Rob Percival teachers JavaScript, PHP & Python in the same course.

    What do you think?

    • Hi Latoya, Colt Steele is all about Nodejs for the back-end that’s why he’s into JavaScript with both feet.

Rob teachers PHP and WordPress and then later Python. I think PHP is easier to get started with then follow up with Nodejs. So, if you asked me I’d say learn all of them, but start with Rob’s course(JS,PHP&Python) then move on to Colt Steele’s Nodejs.

    • Pittman, start freelancing immediately you finish your course to make some little money. Don’t look for a job. You wont get till you have real world experience. I have experienced this myself.

  3. This learn and understand NodeJS course by Anthony Alicea has a lot of lecturing and not a lot of hands-on work. And when actual coding gets involved it feels like you’re just supposed to follow along and copy the instructor which doesn’t actually help me learn.

  4. Hi Geoffrey,

Thanks for putting together this list. But if you want to master everything about Reactjs then I think any course by Stephen Grider is great… from my experience.

  5. Thanks for this post Geoffrey.

You have a great blog. However, this might sound off topic, but I am just curious – How did you come up with this list of courses considering there are hundreds of similar courses on Udemy?

    • I have taken a couple of these courses myself. So I include the ones that I found had good content. For those that I haven’t taken I look at the total students registered, the average rating and what other learners are saying about the course content and instructor’s teaching approach. From there I’m able to come up with a list of courses that is actually worth you time.

  6. Hey guys don’t take the Python & Django full stack bootcamp by Jose Portilla because the Javascript and Python portions of the course are way too fast and the instructor gives way so much information per video without explaining what some of the topics were. I see a lot of people giving this course 5 stars but I wouldn’t.

    • Hi Deepali,

Thanks for the honest comment. I went through the course and while I agree that once deep inside the Jose Portilla, the instructor, types code a little faster without much explanation, I still find it easy to follow along with. Maybe you just need to watch the same video lecture a couple times if you find it too fast in order to grasp everything.

    • Thanks for the reply Geoffrey. I agree that I can redo the videos but I believe when an instructor is teaching something new to a beginner they shouldn’t hurry you up or you’ll get lost. Anyway like I said in the first comment, a lot of people like the course and are giving it 5 stars. I just had a different experience with it though.

  7. The Complete ASP.NET MVC 5 Course by Mosh Hamedani is a good one because it provides you with a solid foundation of the ASP.NET architecture.

  8. Languages used in mobile app development are increasing in popularity rapidly. Kotlin which is interoperable with Java is one such language which is becoming popular in the mobile app space.

  9. LOVE this article (and your others!). This was so helpful in my preparation for something later today. Its really a great and useful piece of information. I was looking for information on web dev courses. This blog gave me a list of options in terms of courses. Thank you for sharing

  10. Is the GoLang agood thing to learn? Is this something that I will need to know for future programming? New to website development and just wanted to be sure and cover all bases.
